Never before since investing in Connect Care in 2022 have I been so extremely grateful for their services as I was this Thursday morning. I noticed on my Gmail that I had a parcel delivered from Amazon and that it was as usual abandoned at my front door. As it was an expensive item I immediately went outside to retrieve it. Unfortunately as it was early morning I was clad only in my nightgown, dressing gown and slippers. Normally this would have poised no problem, however the temperature that day was way below freezing and as soon as my presumably warm moccasin touched the icy cold doormat disaster struck me unaware. In 2004 while on vacation I had previously suffered from a life threatening injury to my left shoulder and arm. I was grateful to have Dr. Scott Mandell and his team at Hamilton General Hospital repair it in a once in a lifetime event. I was warned that if I damaged it again I could possibly lose the arm. Unfortunately when I fell it was disastrous! Initially I was facing the road when I fell I had fallen in almost a full circle and was now facing the door. As I was falling as was aware of continually banging my arm and back against the brick wall behind me. I quickly realised that I had no power whatsoever in my previously damaged arm with which to lever myself up with. Now please bear in mind that the weather that morning was way below freezing and that I am barely clad. Frostbite could get to me quite fast. I tried to pull the hall carpet over myself to use as a cover from the elements. Fortunately I then remembered that I was wearing my Connect Care button around my neck. I frantically pushed the respond button and was answered immediately. A gentleman stayed on the line with me until a fire engine quickly arrived in a very short time. Although while lying in discomfort on an icy surface it appeared to be longer. The next quandary for these gallant men was how to lift me up without further damaging my shoulder which I had hurt badly when I fell. They asked me where I kept my towels. I directed them to a bathroom. They lifted me up by placing the towel under my knees therefore saving more damage to my already injured shoulder. I really have to commend the Oakville On. Fire department for not only their fast response in the terribly cold weather but their intelligence and courtesy. Shortly after more first responders arrived in an ambulance and transported me to Oakville Trafalgar Hospital. After approximately a dozen X-Rays were taken by a very efficient and sympathetic team I was released into the care of my daughter with an appointment to see an orthopaedic surgeon on Tuesday. I honestly cannot thank everyone involved enough but especially Connect Care people who began the chain of rescue and kept me calm. I was pleasantly surprised by the phone call the following day from Lydia at our local branch of Connect Care with her warm concerns for my well being.
