From the time my Mom was received until her recent passing, she was treated amazingly and my brother and I are truly grateful. Thanks to Senior's Coordinator, Sandra for being such a positive spirit for the residents; Care Services Manager, Olivia, and all of the rest of the staff in every role (sorry I don't have all of your names) for being truly special! Living in BC, I was always updated right away and I never had to worry that my mom wasn't being cared for. Thank you, Thank you!!!

My mother has been at Bethany Harvest Hills for four years now and I have always been very pleased with the care she receives. The staff really care about the residents. There are activities every day for all levels, and staff make sure residents have what they need for their specific care and stimulation - be it blankets, books, stuffies, colouring books, puzzles, etc. Staff call us at home when our mom needs anything new, like night gowns, etc. They always keep us up to date on her health and well being. A good caring professional crew make up the staff.

I have attempted to bring my concerns forward to administration to no avail. I don't know if Bethany is motivated to change to ensure the best quality of life for their residents. It appears that their culture has remained the same for a long time. I would be happy to edit my review if things change. I applaud all hard-working, caring staff members as their efforts are always appreciated, and let me be clear, there are many who meet this description. However, I don't sense a home environment for the seniors that live there; rather, a medical institution. The environment is old and depressing and it could be improved quite easily. Residents participate infrequently in activities that are listed in the calendar. Don't assume that your loved one gets to participate. Additional staff is required to ensure that residents receive adequate engagement that is personalized, based on residents' abilities and interests. Also, it has to be a team effort as not one person can do it all. There are several houses with many residents, but only one coordinator (rec therapist). She is wonderful and energetic, but she can't possibly do it alone and meet everyone's needs. Our most vulnerable population, the residents, deserve a life that is content/joyful, and has meaning. I believe that this is possible at every life stage, and more could be done at Bethany Harvest Hills to ensure this happens. In addition, to the lack of mental stimulation, I have concerns that residents aren't being toileted as frequently as they should eg. smell of urine and urine on floor below where residents sit. The food is yet another concern and could be improved. Some of it is unrecognizable and it would be appreciated if residents could be served more fresh vegetables and additional opportunities for desserts other than the regular serving of fruit sauce.
