Our father was part of the Legault family for three and a half years. It wasn't easy to get him to leave the residence. He was still very fit physically but was developing dementia. The first night, like any new resident in a long-term care facility, he was really unhappy and wanted to leave. The person in charge of his floor, Stéphane, researched my father's former family business. He then sat with him, tablet in hand, and chatted for a few hours. He became his best friend. He also made a best friend in Catherine, a nurse. He had his chair, file, and pen next to her in the office. I unfortunately can't name everyone, but Ms. Tremblay, the owner, knows how to choose employees who, like her, love people. What I liked on my first visit was the layout of the space, which felt like a family home, with the dining room at its heart. From there, you can see the other patients in two small lounges, the cook at the stove (the food is excellent), and the nurse at their small desk where they can work while also checking that the patients who preferred to stay in their rooms are doing well. The staff also eat in this kitchen, fold clothes, etc. It creates a warm and lively atmosphere. From one of the lounges, residents can see Ms. Tremblay and her nurses working in the office through a glass wall. The door is always open, and the residents regularly go to visit. I understand why—they're welcomed with chocolate! We used to take Dad out regularly for walks and to restaurants. He was always happy to come back to Maison Legault. Similarly, it took us two years to sell his house. We brought him there regularly and even held two Christmas parties there. When he was tired, he would get up and say, "Okay, I want to go to the Maison!" That says it all. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff for taking such good care of our father.
