Memory Care - I feel a responsibility to share my experience with the Memory Care at Governors Walk so others can make informed decisions. While I based my decision on the Google reviews and initial walkthrough my two week experience was a stark contrast to the initial welcome. I have since discovered the RHRA and encourage everyone to use that platform to research any home they are considering for a loved one. In my experience, it is critical to verify and document everything and not rely on verbal information alone. I strongly recommend getting all commitments in writing and closely monitoring care. Ask for logs of PSW care to ensure you are getting the care in your contract. It is also important for families to know that it is legal to install cameras in a private resident room (with proper consent of the loved one). In my case, having footage allowed me to identify issues that I would not have otherwise been aware of. When I attempted to raise concerns based on what I observed, the response I received was not supportive and added additional stress during an already difficult time. My advice to other families: Monitor everything Stay closely involved in day-to-day care Track medications and follow up regularly Advocate consistently for your loved one Please make sure you remain actively involved and informed at all times.

Wonderful caring staff that have a long tenure working at Governors Walk. Located in a beautiful quaint neighbourhood across from Stanley Park with a wonderful Roof Top Terrace overlooking Parliament Hill where you can enjoy viewing the fireworks. Residents and families also enjoy barbecues on the Roof Top Terrace along with staff taking them for walks to Stanley Park when weather permits.

Governor’s Walk was the perfect choice after my 92-year-old father’s three-month hospital stay. Walking to the dining room was a challenge at first, but within a few months, thanks to the many tree-lined river paths, the safe, scenic neighborhood, nearby Rideau Hall grounds, and easy access to grocery stores and restaurants, he can walk several kilometres with his walker. The small residence means the friendly, professional staff know everyone by name, and medication management gives us peace of mind. The food has greatly improved, which he really appreciates. He loves his unit, furnished with his favorite belongings.Governor’s Walk also fared well during a recent COVID outbreak, controlling the spread and adapting procedures. It truly was the right choice!
