I am giving a 5 star review, because, although the home is an old building, I commend the cleanliness and excellent services received from all staff at NOL attending to my sister, diagnosed from dementia. I visit her twice weekly and I only have positive feedback regarding the care and attention given to her. NOL feels like a home to my sister and myself. The staff, who are involved with my sister, seems happy, which shows in their work. Many extra services such as Salon, FootCare, dentist etc. are made available in the home if needed. The first Long-Term Home Care my sister had to moved to (not by choice), was an horrendous experience. Thankfully, a bed became available at NOL and I would not hesitate to recommend this dependable, committed and trusted home, where my sister is very happy ever since moving to New Orchard Lodge.

Although it was 10 years ago (2013) and because I've seen reports that nothing has changed for elderlies in Ontario... My mother was there for only two weeks (respite) she came back with a non treated broken elbow, a super bacteria (citrobacter freundii) and confusion. Took a lot of effort to get access to her daily journal (wanted to charge me $900,00 to access it)! They medicated her when it was not allowed, fed her meat when she was vegetarian and so many other. I'm guessing people leaving more than 3 stars is whether because they see their loved ones every day and question the establishment or don't see their loved ones as they just "parked" them there. Before putting you're love ones in a home make some impromptu visits.

We have an elderly family member for who we are their primary caregiver. We were hesitant about placing her in New Orchard. That was 18 months ago. We were on a wait list for other places for over 2 years but her situation deteriorated quickly and we needed to take what was available. While New Orchard looks old and tired and doesn't offer as extensive of any activity list as many other places, the care received has been excellent and the facility appears to be well run. On occasion we have visited and there has been a horrible stench in the hallway where a resident likely soiled themselves but that is pretty rare. I find that New Orchard resembles more of a hospital setting and less of a home or residence. The staff though are excellent. Our family member always has good things to say about the staff, when we do see them engage with her there are smiles and jokes being cracked, and there are no complaints about the food. I however have sat down for a few meals with her at the home and wouldn't call it restaurant quality in taste or presentation but it is edible and our family member is happy which is the most important thing for us. I think we have enough experience after 18 months to say that we have no plans to move her elsewhere. She is well taken care of and that's what counts for the most for us. We have seen no signs of any abuse as others have pointed to an article in their review and amazingly the facility has been COVID free and we have made window visits work.
