My mother has lived at the Swan Evergreen Village since late 2023. We moved our Mom there for reasons that largely included enhanced care. As she is now in early 90s, the care Mom has received at the Swan has been outstanding by every measure. The AHS supported site, with LPNs and RNs, the quality and compassionate nature of her care has enhanced Mom's quality of life without question. The word "quality" can also be applied to other elements of the site - housekeeping (in rooms and in common areas); meals (high quality food prepared by a chef and served in a friendly and professional manner), reception (friendly and professional people who always have a smile on their face), Salon (regular visits for hairstyling, cutting and washing) etc. etc. The decision to move our Mom to the Swan was a decision made without regret. She loves her home, as she calls it, and wouldn't live anywhere else. Thanks to all the women and men who serve our seniors at the Swan Evergreen!

I was assured that my mom could stay here for the rest of her life (she was 79 when she moved in with a dementia diagnosis and difficulty with mobility, so I wanted to ensure she wouldn't have to make another move). But within a year we were already looking for something else (in 2024). The staff rarely engaged with her even when they entered her room, they had no patience with her and often didn't respond to her call bell, citing staffing shortages. She had mulitple UTIs from their toileting protocols (hasn't had a single one since she moved out a year ago), they were rough with her and gave her no care or kindess. There were at least 2 occasions of maltreatment that I had to take to management. Over time the treatment became worse as staff became more annoyed with her dementia, and often told her they didn't have time to help her to the washroom or to help her to get to her bed. If your loved one is fully independent and cognitively sound, then this may be a good place for them, but otherwise I would strongly recommend against it. Looks pretty, but the treatment of residents is, at best, very disappointing.

It took four daughters and constant communication with staff to monitor care and progress of my 92 year old father. Dad attempted to provide feedback to staff that they were not putting on his knee braces properly, not putting in his hearing aids properly or not providing the care he preferred to no avail. The frequent staff changes and lack of accountability meant that his catheter was inserted incorrectly, resulting in an emergency visit, and that Dad often had to do a task himself after staff left to ensure it was done properly. Dad complained about the quality of the food and prior to moving to Swan Evergreen he enjoyed his food very much. Policies were also not senior or family friendly. A month after his passing we were still paying for meals and for personal care that he was not receiving. This did not feel respectful or even ethical.
