Edited feb 7, 2025 I am including the photo of the corelle dinnerware set for 48 place settings (12 boxes) which our family donated for Mom's floor to replace the institutional melmite dinnerware at a cost of less than $500 in May 2024 and we got tax receipts for the pre tax amount. The residents eat off dishware they might have had in their own home up to 3x a day. The residents also had a say in the choice of the pattern. ********* Glebe Centre is not a retirement home nor assisted living and anyone mentioning that might be confusing it with the retirement home next door or do not understand what it is. It is a non profit Long Term Care home (nursing home) regulated by the province of Ontario. The price is fixed by the government based on bed type and age / category of home vs retirement homes who are private and can set whatever price they choose to. It is an above average LTC home being non profit but built with government regulations on a more institutional model vs person centric model I have visited (Hogeweyk / Dutch Alzheimer Village) or read up on (Green House). They are currently implementing Butterfly model out of the UK for the 3rd such floor for the Chinese unit in 2025/ 2025.. Some elements such as Food service / meals are still on institutional model with fixed meal times, 3 week menu rotating that change twice a year vs retirement homes with multiple meal times and more regular menu changes. It is also out of a central kitchen.

Very clean and welcoming, have just placed a parent here. But they are really are useless when it comes to accessing free services offered to low income seniors dental, prescriptions etc they seem to push their own providers, if my dad's meds have been free for years then why now are there fees for meds, I refuse to take on any more financial burdens, the social workers need to get their clients the same free stuff like nicotine patches, dental work, and free meds that are what suddenly not available now that my parent is a resident? Not very happy with their administration staff very pushy trying to get family to take on more financial when my own cost of living exceeds my income. Elder care in Canada is a money game has nothing to do with care. personally I would rather die by my own hand than get sucked into one of these places. Consider suicide before elder care in Canada thank me later...
