My grandmother lived at the village for the past 2 years. It was disheartening and shocking to witness the lack of care and safety provided during her time there. This establishment was poorly managed, understaffed and demonstrated a major lack of communication between management, staff and families. The consistent turnover of staff was one indication of how dysfunctional and inconsistent things were at this facility (during the 2 years my grandmother resided here upper management and regular staff changed every few months, those who remained noted major challenges, understaffing and lack of understanding and support from management). There were very few staff present in each house at this facility, on almost all occasions only 2 staff in my grandmothers home (usually serving food or working in the kitchen, leaving just 1 staff to support 12+ residents with severe dementia). Often, even in emergency situations we were unable to contact staff in the home, the call instead went to front desk, who then transferred us to a line which no one answered. This was very problematic and concerning. During my grandmothers time in this facility, she was verbally and emotionally abused by a staff member (which was not documented or reported by staff working alongside her at the time but overheard by family members who had to report it). She was physically assaulted multiple times by another resident in her own room (which was only noticed in watching our footage on the camera we installed in her room, we then had to call the staff to alert them, as they did not notice or intervene) After being assaulted (punched in the face multiple times, losing her front tooth and needing stitches in her lip) the manager Franklin Jackson allowed the resident who assaulted her and threatened all residents regularly to remain in the home for another month. When I inquired about a safety plan to ensure my grandmother would not be attacked or left in another unsafe environment (after spending hours in the hospital and feeling uneasy about returning her home) I was told that they didn't have one, but they could lock other residents doors at night. Following multiple assaults and a meeting (which we had to initiate and request with the manager), there were more instances in which the resident that assaulted her entered her room without any staff present and continued threatening behaviour, this was not reported or addressed by the manager (who's lack of care and empathy was shocking). After reporting the incidents myself, licensing officers from Fraser Health came to determine safety protocols and determine the level of care at the facility. They noted that these events had not been documented or reported as required under the law. During the time my grandmother was at The Village improper medications were administered without consent on more than one occasion, she experienced ongoing and reoccurring UTI'S, as she was often left in soiled clothing for 8-12 hours a day. From what was shared with our family when inquiring about staff training and "dementia care" we were told staff at the facility take an online course that can be completes at their leisure, sometime after they begin working at The Village. To my knowledge, this is the extent of their "dementia training." At such an expensive $14,000+ a month facility which claims to put residents first, specialize in dementia care and focus on "enriching residents' lives", this is subpar. I feel sad for all the residents that can't advocate for themselves and remain in this living environment, paying and exorbitant amount of their savings to reside in a place that does not provide what is claims to offer. The home my grandmother resided in offered limited to no in-house activities, had undertrained staff and unreasonable staff to resident ratios. Living with dementia is hard enough for loved ones and their families. My grandmother and our family experienced ongoing challenges, extreme stress and worried about ongoing safety concerns while paying for overpriced and inadequate care.

My Grandpa moved in about 6 months ago, and our experience as a family and his experience has been wonderful. He's able to walk the grounds, eat great food, and receive genuine care which puts everyone's mind at ease. Thank you to the entire team! We can't thank you enough.

I feel it’s important to share my experience so other families can make fully informed decisions. Unfortunately, my experience with The Village Assisted Living has been deeply disappointing. There appears to be a significant lack of effective management, clear communication, and accountability within the organization. Concerns are not consistently addressed in a timely or transparent manner, and it often feels as though responsibility is passed around rather than taken seriously. I want to be clear that many of the frontline staff are kind, caring, and genuinely do their best under difficult circumstances. However, the ongoing issues appear to stem from management, and leadership needs to step up to provide proper support, structure, and oversight. Most concerning is that residents are not being treated in the way they deserve during what should be their final years spent with dignity, joy, and compassion. An assisted living facility should provide more than basic care it should offer warmth, meaningful engagement, and a true sense of community. In my experience, this is lacking. Family events and activities are consistently underwhelming, especially when considering the high cost of living at this facility. For the amount families are paying, residents should be receiving enriching experiences, genuine connection, and an environment that feels caring and uplifting. That standard is not being met. I would caution prospective families not to be misled by polished photos or overly positive reviews. Many existing reviews lack key information and do not reflect the realistic, day-to-day factors that truly matter when evaluating a facility of this kind. For a place that families trust with the care and well-being of their loved ones, this is extremely concerning. I strongly encourage families to ask detailed questions, stay involved, and be very aware of where they are choosing to place their loved ones, as well as how their hard-earned, lifelong savings are being spent. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and leads to meaningful improvements, but until then, I cannot recommend this facility.
