  My 93 year-old mom moved from BC to Ottawa to be closer to family and to access better assisted living and health care services and options. Timberwalk was chosen after an extensive review of 7 retirement homes. The Assisted Living Solution (ALS) provided by TW is amazing. The suites on the assisted living floor are spacious with high ceilings; lots of natural light from large windows; provides options for other services you may need such as cable, phone and internet; bathroom configurations for those needing assistance; an extensive activity calendar; a wonderful courtyard to enjoy the outdoors which includes a pond, bird feeders, gardening, and a spectacular holiday season lights display. One of the key advantages is the ability for my mom to “age in place” with memory care services there when she needs them. And the breadth of their in-house services are amazing – a pool, a hair salon, dining rooms on the main floor for independent living as well as on the Assisted Living and Memory Care floors; huge entertainment spaces including a theatre, cooking classes and private dining with family and friends; 24x7 nursing care; etc. They deliver on everything on their website! On moving in in Sept., TW provided my mom respite furniture while she waited for her possessions to be delivered from BC three weeks later. The nursing staff and PSWs were immediately welcoming and provided the ALS she needed to transition to the new environment and services, which can be significant for those with dementia. They immediately implemented the morning and evening care services that she needed; integrated her with the activities provided in the building; and prepared a meal plan that suited her particular needs. The nurses and PSWs are kind and patient in all their interactions with her. And the availability of an in-house doctor to be her GP has ensured smooth delivery of health services and implementation and management of the necessary prescriptions. ALL of the staff have been helpful, from the Sales Manager providing all the details of the services provided. To the Environmental Services Manager addressing any issues or challenges with the building services immediately as they arose such as heating/cooling, phone, accessing the in-suite safe, etc. To the nursing team immediately implementing a care plan tweaked to her needs and following thru on it in the ensuing months. To the PSWs who help her with day-to-day activities such as assistance with dressing, dental care, sanitation, etc. To the Reception helping direct me to the right person to address any concerns or issues that may come up. The TW team are such a pleasure to work with, always with a smile and a helping hand wherever and whenever needed. And the managers in the various departments are always ready to chat to resolve any challenges that may come up. My wife has worked in the retirement living industry for decades and has been a general manger of multiple retirement homes. I’ve learned a lot about this industry thru proximity. Based on what I’ve heard and learnt over the years, I am happy, nay thrilled to thoroughly recommend TW for the services they provide to our loved ones. It is such a relief to know that my mom is in good hands!

  Timberwalk Retirement Community Kanata: accommodation/facility/garden are excellent. Entertainment is very good. Staff are friendly and good to the residents. Food is deplorable. Half the time the meals are so horrible that my Mom goes back to her room and microwaves a frozen dinner or orders a BLT. Either the head cook does not know the basics of how to cook for a large group or the budget Timberwalk gives him is so inadequate that he is trying to cobble the meals together on a shoe string budget. The quality of the food is definitely low grade. My Mom sent me a picture of beets that we’re cooked so long they were gray not red. Every day I get a picture of some unappetizing meal they are serving that looks worse than a bad cafeteria you would avoid eating at. The fact the facility was built with only 2 elevators for both staff and residents also means the elderly residents can wait excessively long periods for an elevator. Bad design. I want to move her out but at that age she doesn’t think she can manage another move.

  My husband moved into Timberwalk I August 2025 and the change in him is amazing. He is on the assisted living floor. He is more social, attends the activities (even though he thought he wouldn’t) and is enjoying them. He has made friends and likes everything about the place. The General Manager, Nancy Brideau, and all the staff are amazing. They take such good care of all the people in there. I would highly recommend this place if you need a loved one to go for more help. But they do have a variety of floors for people who do not need assistance at this point.
