  I highly recommend the Willowbend to anyone who is looking for a retirement community for their family member. Our Mother started on the fifth floor independent wing and has now successfully transitioned to the third floor assisted living. Management paid thoughtful attention to our Mother's cares and desires and did their utmost best to be respectful of her concerns and wishes to remain as independent as possible. They are constantly looking for ways to keep our Mother socially active and stimulated and encourage her at all times to join in on events and special outings. Management and staff constantly look for new and creative opportunities to engage our Mother and find ways to support her during her difficult dementia journey even when we think there are none. As my sister and I are both in the health care profession we know all to0 well how often people are inclined to report the negative but rarely take the time to report a positive experience. We feel that several people deserves special mention here. Brian, the General Manager always takes the time to address our concerns even staying late on a Friday to have a care meeting to accommodate my sister coming in from out of town. Maddie, their activities director, has on more than one occasion sought our Mother out and done thoughtful activities with her independently when she knew our Mother missed them. Laura and Jenn, the marketing director and office manager respectively always take the time to inquire after our Mother and tell us a story of their interaction. Lanie, the Director of Care, is never not working, and even on her days off is checking in to ensure her team is up to date on client needs. And Charlene and Ashley at reception are the beating heart of operations handling multiple requests, always with a smile and encouraging word that lifts your spirits when you are having a bad day. Farzad, the maintenance manager and Max their transportation driver also deserve special mention as they go above and beyond to help our Mother and never make her feel anything less than special. The nursing staff, too numerous to mention, are absolutely fabulous and go above and beyond. They are warm and encouraging and work tirelessly. Housekeeping is also fabulous and always does that little bit extra to ensure our Mother is happy with her room, her clothes and anything else that needs their attention.   Unfortunately, the negative reviews about Willowbend are not exaggerated, particularly regarding the second and third floors. I have personally witnessed and experienced these issues firsthand while my father was residing on the Memory Care floor. My experience with the Memory Care floor at Willowbend has been extremely disappointing and distressing. The level of neglect of care is deeply concerning, especially for residents who are vulnerable and unable to advocate for themselves. In addition to the poor quality of care, the unprofessionalism of the Director of Care (DOC) and the General Manager (GM) is unacceptable. Inappropriate comments (even a racist comment during one of our meetings) were made regarding other staff members and even family members, which demonstrates a serious lack of professionalism, discretion, and leadership. Concerns were raised multiple times with the GM and DOC, yet meaningful change never followed. Families should not have to repeatedly advocate for basic standards of care or feel dismissed when bringing forward legitimate issues. At this point, the only hope for Willowbend Memory Care floor is the resignation of the current DOC and GM and the implementation of a new leadership team that prioritizes resident safety, dignity, accountability, and respectful communication. I would strongly caution families to carefully consider this facility, particularly the Memory Care unit.

  My great aunt stayed on the second floor, the memory care unit. The PSWs and staff were wonderful, so generous and attentive.We felt more than comfortable leaving my auntie knowing she was in capable hands.
